A Photography Expedition to Honzawa Onsen in Yatsugatake
I set out on a photography adventure to Honzawa Onsen, tucked away deep in the valleys of the Yatsugatake mountains. My journey began on two wheels — cycling up to the mountain car park, where I left my bicycle behind. From there, the real challenge started: a 5-kilometer hike through a rugged, narrow valley that led me to one of Japan’s most remote and highest natural hot springs.
The trail was steep and wild, with the sound of the river echoing through the canyon walls. As I made my way deeper, the mountains slowly opened up to reveal breathtaking landscapes — untouched nature where time seemed to move differently. By the time I reached Honzawa Onsen, I felt I had stepped into a hidden world.
That evening, I set up my tent and took out my camera to capture the night sky. Far from city lights, the stars blazed brightly overhead, and the silence of the valley was broken only by the rushing water nearby. Photographing the Milky Way above Yatsugatake was a moment I’ll never forget.
The next morning rewarded me with something even more spectacular. As the sun rose, I launched my drone and watched Mount Fuji emerge from a sea of clouds, its peak crowned by strange and beautiful lenticular clouds. The scene felt otherworldly — a perfect harmony of mountain, cloud, and sky.
After spending one unforgettable night in my tent, I packed up and began the journey back through the valley. The hike out felt lighter, as if the mountain itself had shared a secret with me.
This expedition was more than just about taking photographs — it was about slowing down, immersing myself in nature, and discovering hidden wonders in Yatsugatake. Honzawa Onsen, with its remote beauty and quiet power, is a place I’ll carry with me long after I’ve left.
八ヶ岳・本沢温泉への写真撮影の旅
今回の旅の目的地は、八ヶ岳の深い谷にひっそりと佇む秘湯 本沢温泉。写真撮影を兼ねた小さな冒険の始まりです。
自転車で山道を登り、駐車場に自転車を置いたところから本当の挑戦が始まりました。そこから約5キロの登山道を歩き、渓谷の奥へと進みます。谷底を流れる川の音に包まれながら歩く道は険しくも美しく、自然の懐に抱かれるような感覚でした。
辿り着いた本沢温泉は、標高の高い場所に湧く野趣あふれる露天風呂。まるで山そのものが守っているかのような静けさがあり、時間の流れがゆっくりと感じられました。
夜はテントを張り、星空の撮影に挑みます。街の光から遠く離れた山奥の夜空には、数えきれないほどの星々が広がり、天の川がはっきりと浮かび上がっていました。谷の静寂の中で撮影する時間は、言葉では言い表せないほどの特別なひとときでした。
翌朝、さらなる驚きが待っていました。夜明けとともにドローンを飛ばすと、雲海の上に姿を現す 富士山。その頂には不思議な形の吊るし雲（レンズ雲）がかかり、幻想的な風景が広がっていました。まるで別世界を覗いているかのような瞬間に、夢中でシャッターを切りました。
一夜を山中で過ごし、テントを片付けて再び谷を歩き出すと、行きよりも軽やかな足取りで戻ることができました。心の中に山の秘密をひとつ授かったような気持ちでした。
この本沢温泉フォトエクスペディションは、ただの写真撮影にとどまらず、自然の懐に身を委ね、静寂と美しさを全身で感じる旅となりました。八ヶ岳の奥深くに眠るこの秘湯の魅力は、きっと忘れることはないでしょう。
